    This is a wonderful upgrade in Tom Tom Technology. It has a larger screen, text to speech and it arrived in ex cellent condition. the only downside is the fact that the voice often mispronounces names, ie. bridge becomes, branch. But i would certainly recommedn it to anyone.

    Hey, the last reviews state much about the operations, so I won't write much about it. The only feeling that I have is that this GPS may contain less POIs then the Garmins, but honestly it's just a feeling and may be not true.



    The very important thing to consider before buying this GPS is:



    You will NOT have the latest maps on it, and in many to most cases cannot use the 1-year latest map guarantee for downloading as you buy a used system. Amazon should edit the product description and insert a warning message or so for this...



    The one I've bought had maps dates Feb 07 - so 2.5 years old. When I am thinking of "refurbished" I normally assume that I buy factory-refurbished hardware with more or less the latest software on it, but TomTom does not update to the latest software when refurbishing. I feel this company policy to be strange - but they are serious about it: Calling TomTom helpdesk, they won't admit that this is incorrect nor that their policy is something unusual. Of course, they did not grant me a free map update.



    Personally, this GPS and the *great* support of the helpdesk made me turn away from buying TomTom next time.



    To be noted is the uncomplicated return policy of Amazon and their customer support. They were always very customer-oriented and tried to help me where they could.

    Urge no one buy this refurbished product if you really have to depend on it. No savings from "NEW" product, because:



    1. Maps need to be updated at a substantial cost, exceeding the cost of a "NEW" product. If you don't depend on updated maps, then this would be perfect GPS for you.



    2. Limited warranty of six (6) months vs normal warranty of one year.



    3. Hasseling with the customer service to find out that unit does not come with updated maps. Amazon printed review by R.Ned on June 8, 2009 that said he got the update from TOM TOM Customer Service. Very misleading and appears to be boardering on unfair and deceptive sale practice in most states.

    I thought I was ordering a the small soft case just for the TomTom but this larger case came instead. I decided to keep it, thinking it might be useful to have a larger case for all the accessories as well as the TomTom device and to have a hard case. It's not.



    The main problems:

    1. Not everything fits. It's too small to fit the TomTom 720, the car charger and the windsheild mount.

    2. Construction is poor. The zipper closure is tenuous and I expect it won't last long. A hard case matched up with a zipper is not a good combination. Zippers belong on soft-sided cases. The case should have been designed with a latch.

    3. It also came with a very strong petroleum odor that has not dissipated much and I've owned this for a month.

    4. It's not designed for the TomTom; it's just a generic hard-sided case so the internal sleeves and pockets don't exactly fit the TomTom piecs.



    The (few) good things:

    1. It's a hard case so more protective than soft-sided cases

    2. It includes a few internal sleeves and a two net pocket, so whatever you decide to put in it, stays in place.

    Case is sturdy and the right size, BUT the rigid folding carrying strap is more of a pain than a help. It folds around the already zippered case and makes opening the case a two step process. Ditch the strap (you will have to remove the grommets) and the case is good! There are better cases out there though..so look around.

    The case itself is nice unfortunately the product was damaged and looked old. There is a persistant smell of naphtaline to it which is rather annoying. I have left the case opened for weeks now and the smell does not go away.

    I purchased this over a year ago because it was relatively cheap and a TomTom (probably the biggest name in GPS today). After a few times of usage, I found the One XL to be mediocre at best. Even with the updates downloaded online, I found the maps that were used would over/under shoot my destination by as much as a mile. In fairness, this is not ALL the time, but it is sadly about 50% of the time, which is extraordinarily horrible for a GPS unit that you often rely on blindly. I gave the One XL 3 stars because it gets me in the vicinity of where I want to go to the point where I can find my destination myself, otherwise I would've given this product 1 star.

    I've had my TomTom One XL for about 18 months. When turned off, the battery will drain within 2 days. Support says that this is normal as the battery must maintain settings. A really poor excuse. A PC internal battery will maintain settings for up to 10 years. On top of the battery draining, the unit will not operate on external power until the battery has a minimal charge and is reset. This means that you cannot use the unit for about an hour after putting on external power. Really great technology here.



    On top of that, new maps came out about 6 months after I purchased the unit. Had I purchased the new maps, I would have paid full price. I was not offered a discount. I also submitted map corrections over a year ago and these have not appeared. Really great support here.



    I cannot in good conscience recommend this product. There are too many other good products available.



    TomTom, please return your product to Europe. It doesn't fly here.

    Pluses: The only GPS that is Mac compatible for updates and downloads. It's hard to believe that so many devices are still only PC compatible when MAC has a real share of the personal computer market at this point.



    Very nice graphics, fast processor, mostly intuitive interface, antenna picks up GPS easily, screen gives a lot of info, speaker sound is excellent, great machine at the price, love the fun voices you can download. Updating and downloading process is easy and quick.



    Minuses: Some functions could be more intuitive - eg: I find putting in a new address to navigate to is not a direct and easy process compared with another GPS I borrowed; I'm not sure if the maps are as good as others for the US roads, but they're OK.



    Overall, highly recommended, especially for MAC users, an excellent value and a pleasure to look at.

    We recently used this item for vacation. We just loved it.

    It helped us from getting lost and we were able to find where we wanted/needed to go.

    The speed function also helped us from going too fast over the speed limit.

    I would recommend this product for travelers even once a year ones like we are.

    The only problem with this item is I did not update it before we left and there were some street changes made, so actually it was my fault.

    I bought this item for a trip to Williamsburg and Washington D.C. We could always go where we wanted quickly with terrific and simple directions. We chose Susan as the voice for our instructions. The one time we ignored her we went the wrong way and had to back track. I have a system in my personal vehicle which was factory installed, however I take Susan to use. She is more accurate.



    I am thrilled with my Tom Tom.

    I have a Garmin GPS, and love it - saw the Tom Tom for sale at this super low price, and knew that it is the "Best" GPS for use in Europe - and thought it should stand up well against the Garmin. What I find is that the entire device is a bit misleading -

    1) Blue tooth here does not mean "hands free" blue tooth - you cannot make or receive calls from this unit. At best, it links with your cell phone to download updates (maybe - my blackberry on AT&T does not seem to sync no matter what)

    2) Text to speech is limited ONLY to the computer voice, if you try any of the celebrity voices, it will not pronounce the street names - making it impossible to use in the city.

    3) Screen glare is bad compared to the much brighter and easier to see garmin

    4) The Map screen is good, the information about upcoming turns is better than the Garmin's but the navigation and use screens are not intuitive, and are downright dangerous to use if the car is moving. It takes several screens to cancel a trip, and without a dial adjustment on the volume, it is a pain to change the sound level.

    5) Navigation is as good or better than the Garmin, but with less than 1/3 the points of interest, it is not good at finding restaurants, hotels, etc. It also does not search POI very well, and seems to stop looking outside of a 10 mile radius.



    Overall, for the money this is an OK GPS, but dollar for Dollar, I wish I had purchased another Garmin......

    I had a Garmin 760, it was great! now TOMTOM One XL gives too many error, on half year old map, sometimes even the destination was in front of me, but the gps still telling me to go other direction then make a big circle come back, you will know what i am talking about if you buy one. I will go back to Garmin next time.

    Tom Tom One XL-S is great and is surely the best product at affordable cost. TomTom ONE XL 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Maps of the U.S. and Canada



    I liked it a lot and the day I have taken I drive Confidently across the City.



    The only issue I faced is that in my first trip it took me from some unknown place but maybe that was due to my request of avoiding highway. I did reach destination for sure but with initial doubts.



    In my next trip things were better but I am yet to figure out several things like putting the addresses, working out routes, checking on the street names calling.. Well I did not study the book well. It explains everything very well though.



    One doubt that still persists is the speed limit. I was asked to put the speed limit myself, instead of it taking on its own. So I put 55 and unfortunately it beeps in places wherein the speed allowed is more.



    Overall Its a Great Product and Worth Buying.. I got it for $ 120. It was a Cake walk....

    Poor product - a successor to the terrible line of products I've bought from this company.... Telephone support is condescending and unyielding.



    This is my SECOND GPS from TomTom - the first $800 Rider (first edition) suffers from a defective charging stand on the motorcycle rendering it virtually useless - this XL One-S has already had it's screen flake out on me... yep... when taking it in my jacket pocket on my motorcycle and of course right at the moment when I was lost and really needed it.



    Reliability ZERO!



    I've sent this in for repairs (just yesterday) - I even sent my long-out-of-warranty Rider in with hopes that they'd fix them both.



    I'm not holding my breath - My next purchase in GPS's depends on their actions.
